Piracy and armed robbery at sea continues to threaten seafarers in key regions such as the Gulf of Guinea, the waters of South East Asia and the waters off Somalia. Pirate vessels range from high speed skiffs to disguised fishing boats attempting to get close to the target ship.
Protecting against such attacks requires vigilance of maritime patrol aircraft to detect potential threats as far in advance as possible. ViDAR makes the task much easier. In a range of evaluations around the world, ViDAR has demonstrated its ability to automatically find fast boats at ranges of 9.1 to 17 nautical miles and fishing boats at ranges from 17 to 25 nautical miles.
ViDAR provides over 300x greater ocean search coverage compared with existing EO/IR systems
ViDAR is a low size, weight and power system with easy integration options for different aircraft types
ViDAR has been extensively evaluated in a wide range of sea states
ViDAR continuously scans the ocean in front of the aircraft and autonomously detects all objects on the ocean surface
ViDAR is providing primary search capability to enforcement operations on multiple continents.
